L'heure bleue - Svalbard
Recent warmer winters in the arctic have been categorized by multiple freeze thaw cycles which can lead to hard ice layers on the tundra as seen here. This can greatly limit the availability of food for the Svalbard reindeer over the winter months and result in reductions in the population.
Stuart Thomson is a semi-professional photographer from the UK who specialises in arctic nature. Stuart is educated as a biologist and holds a masters degree in arctic marine biology. He has lived in Svalbard since 2011 and photographs the island all year round. He is especially interested in landscapes. He has had his work published in numerous books, magazines and websites and has been recognised in international photography competitions.
