Azizan Abu Samah is in charge of Malaysia’s Antarctic research programme. Since completing a PhD in meteorology at the University of Reading, he has specialised in Antarctica’s extreme climatic conditions and the ENSO phenomenon, which governs the distribution of winds in Antarctica. He is a member of the steering committee of the Programme on Antarctica and the Global Climate System (AGCS) run by the SCAR.
