Manuel Catalán is a member of the Spanish Polar Committee in charge of coordinating activities in the Antarctic and Arctic. After receiving a doctorate in physical sciences from the University of Madrid, he became the director of the Real Instituto y Observatorio de la Armada. From 1987 to 1990, he managed Spain’s Antarctic expeditions. He currently teaches physics at the University of Cadiz.
