Achim Steiner is the Executive Director of the United Nations Environment Programme, the role of which is to foster cooperation to protect the environment. A German national born in Brazil, having studied development economics at Oxford, he is a former director general of the International Union for the Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources (IUCN), the world’s largest environmental organisation, present in 140 countries.
