High North
A consequence of global warming is the early break-up of pack ice, depriving the ringed seal of a sea ice refuge which is the polar bear’s best chance to catch the prey that comprises 90% of his annual diet.
Staffan Widstrand is a photographer committed to the promotion of ecotourism as a nature conservation tool. His photos have received 11 awards from the Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition organised by London’s Natural History Museum and the BBC. He was a leading force behind the creation of the first national ecotourism quality label in the northern hemisphere, “Natures’ Best” which was created in 2002.
