IIvan E. Frolov is the director of the Arctic and Antarctic Research Institute in Saint Petersburg. After completing a doctorate in oceanography, he specialised in the study of the distribution of ice in the Russian Arctic seas. The author of more than 70 articles, his aim is to calm prevailing fears by pointing out the annual variations in the distribution of sea ice in the Arctic are consistent with climate cycles.
