Louwrens Hacquebord is a professor in Arctic and Antarctic Studies at the University of Groningen. He is the director of the Arctic Centre of the University of Groningen, vice-president and member of the International Arctic Science Committee (IASC) and member of the National 2007-2009 IPY Committee. His research is largely focused on the history of the exploration and exploitation of the polar regions.
