Henrik of Denmark was born in France in 1934 and married Princess Margrethe, heiress to the Danish throne, in 1967, thereby acquiring Danish citizenship. He is a graduate of the Sorbonne University and the National Institute of Oriental Languages and Civilisations (INALCO, Paris), where he studied Chinese and Vietnamese. He is the official patron of 70 organisations and associations including the Red Cross, and the founding president of WWF Denmark.
