Paul Okalik is former Premier of Nunavut, an autonomous territory of Canada since 1999. The son of a reindeer hunter, brought up to respect traditional Inuit values, he was the first Inuit to obtain a law degree at the University of Ottawa. Re-elected in 2004, he devoted his mandate to the education of the new generation giving priority to the new technologies while maintaining traditional values. His aim was to reconcile the old and the new.
