Jörn Thiede is a professor of marine geology and climatology at the University of Copenhagen (Denmark) and also teaches at the University Centre in Svalbard (UNIS), in Longyearbyen. From 1997 to 2007, he was in charge of the Alfred Wegener Polar and Marine Research Institute in Bremerhaven, Germany. A respected scientist among his peers, he is known for his research into climate trends in the boreal regions.
